My research paper is an examination of collective memory regarding racial violence in the United States. It was inspired by our trip to Montgomery; at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, I saw one of the coffins commemorating lynchings in the county I live in. There were over 20 unidentified names on November 3, 1920, so I looked into the deaths. There was a massive lynching in Ocoee on Election Day as a result of white mobs angry at black voters.
