Evolution of Language and Humor (Non-Textual) In our section during Unit 1, we discussed the use of language in our course. It started with discussing who can use what language and how that can exhibit one’s beliefs, but transitioned into a discussion about how rapidly language is changing these days. We talked about how language is becoming more revolutionary through the spread of memes and slang on the internet. One specific example we taught Dr. Denham was the phrase “it be like that sometimes.” This is why I chose to include this image, as it shows that exact phrase on a fallen message board. It is slightly ironic, as the phrase indicates dissatisfaction with a given situation, and the message was strewn about as it fell off our wall, breaking the message board. The best phrase for this situation was “it be like that sometimes.”
